Books, Bands, Films & Stuff.

I Did something I'd not done for a long time last night.

Get your mind out of the gutter. I'm talking about laughing out loud at a book. Complete cackling giggle fits of laughter.

The Book? 'Return of the Timewaster Letters' by Robin Cooper. The book is made up of a series of letters between Robin Cooper (A non de Plume) & various organisations. In which he asks for help & advice from the organisation. Along the way we get introduced to his wife (Who I'm afraid has a bad ankle), Camfy the Wild Boar & Parmaynu ™

That's a rather dry description of what goes on in the book & you really need to read the bizarre & increasingly surreal letters, coupled with drawings that look like they've been done by a small child. All of which had me in fits.

I'm borrowing 'The Timewaster Letters' tonight.

Silence of the Lambs...

...not that good a film. 'Red Dragon' A brilliant film. Edward Norton deserves some sort of prize.

Bed time.

V for Vendetta

In the Launderette the other day I saw a bus go past with an advert for this film. I must admit I'm getting rather excited about seeing it. Espescially since I've watched the trailers on the films'website.

The Imax version isn't playing in Birmingham though. Bastards. I'll have to look out for it somewhere else I can get to.

The Devils Rejects

Some time last year I watched a film called 'House of a Thousand corpses' A family unfriendly horror film, with no redeeming features, except the sheer nastiness of the characters. It was a great film.

Tonight I watched the sequel 'The Devils Rejects' Equally family unfriendly & equally nasty, but as with 'House of..' equally thoughtful.

After watching both the films, I suggest that that Quentin Tarantino should look to his laurels. Rob Zombie has disappeared from his rearview mirror & is level with him. As with Tarantino the music was top.

I have a problem now. If I see 'Kill Bill' 1 & 2 on offer & 'House of a Thousand Corpses' & 'Devils Rejects' on offer at the same time. Which do I get? At the moment Rob Zombie looks like he's getting my money.

Ebooks: Neither E, Nor Books - Cory Doctorow

I know I've banged on about Blackmask Online before. An excellent Ebook site. I found a short book last night. "Ebooks: Neither E, Nor Books" well actually a lecture given by author Cory Doctorow. Who I'd heard of just this week on a radio programme.

Anyone interested in literature & technology should give it a read. If you don't have a PDA it's available as HTML & not too long to read on screen.

Destroy all Humans

Just a word about the PS2 game "Destroy all Humans" My mate got it
for Christmas, I've been playing it alot at his. I'll be buying it for
myself, it's fucking superb.

It's got all the touches from the fifties
sci-fi paranoia films, as seen through a twisted lens similar to the
one used in 'Mars Attacks'

Batman Begins

He certainly fucking does!

A mate of mine watched this film at home & said he pressed play
again as soon as the film had finished. I would, but look at the time
stamp on this entry.

As I was around for the 'serious' comic boom in the early eighties you
may have half an idea why I enjoyed some of the previous Batman
films... & why I was dissapointed by some of them. Yeah. It
deserves a better review than me just saying it's awesome.

This film means I'm going to re-read 'Watchmen'. (& wonder how your
Da Vinci Code man can plaigarise one of its ideas in one of his other
books) Then I'm going to re-read 'V for Vendetta' & hope the film
of that will stand up against the comic version.

Watch out Mr Blair & Mr Bush. There are hopefully younger, fitter
& cleverer people than me who will take on the ideas explored in
these works of fiction & do something about your criminal ways.

Time for bed.
